Terry Kennedy was elected
as our senior pastor in December 2005 and officially began
his ministry in Saint John following his pastoral
installation service on February 5, 2006. Born, raised and
educated in New Brunswick, Pastor Kennedy’s Atlantic
Canadian roots provide a strong foundation from which he is
able to identify with and effectively minister to Maritimers.
His theological training was received at Northeast Christian
College in Fredericton, NB where he graduated in 1990 with
high honors. Currently, he is pursuing a degree in
journalism through the University of New Brunswick and has
set a goal to become a licensed family counselor. Pastor
Kennedy has served the United Pentecostal Church in a
variety of capacities including work with the Atlantic
District children’s ministry and a 3-year-term as the
Atlantic District Youth President.
Terry met Sally (Ronco) in 1988 while they attended Bible
college at Northeast Christian College. They married in July
1989 and now have four sons, Jordan, Zachary, Seth and
Benjamin. The Kennedy family enjoy bike riding, swimming,
playing sports and taking time just to be together.
Terry and Sally Kennedy have always enjoyed making a
difference in the community where they live and minister.
The Kennedy’s demonstrated this belief while serving on
various community boards and committees during the twelve
years they served as youth pastor (1993-1998) and senior
pastor (1998-2005) at the Voice of Pentecost church in
McAdam, NB.
Together with his wife, Sally, and their four sons, the
Kennedy family is thrilled to continue their ministry in
Saint John with a God-inspired vision to lead the tremendous
staff and congregation at Mark Drive into a great future in
Christ.
Sally Kennedy is well
known for her enthusiasm, warm personality and genuine
concern for others. Her greatest joy comes from mothering
her four sons and working together
with her husband Terry in ministry. Her passions include
teaching Bible studies, community involvement and
ministering to the needs of people. Sally is an accomplished
speaker with a wealth of ministry experience. Her formative
years were greatly influenced by her grandmother and pastor,
Sister Phyllis Webber, of Dexter, Maine. Since their
marriage in 1989, Terry and Sally have been continuously
involved in the Kingdom of God serving in a variety of
ministry roles including a 3-year term as the Atlantic
District Youth President. For many years, Sally has
faithfully served as a sectional ladies ministries
representative for the Atlantic District. She also directs
the ladies ministries of First UPC.
Peter Long.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Pentecostal
pioneer preacher Reverend Perley Hatheway, and his late
uncle, Reverend Jack Long, Peter has poured his heart and
soul into the work of God. He received his formal
theological training at Northeast Christian College in
Fredericton, New Brunswick (1990-1992) and Gateway College
of Evangelism in St. Louis, Missouri (1992-1995) where he
graduated from the Associate of Arts degree program.
Peter met Julie (Tracy) in their first
year of Bible college and they married in June of 1993.
Together they have ministered on foreign soil as Associates
in Missions to the Leeward Islands and assisted in the
start-up of a daughter church plant in Warrenton, Missouri.
In February 1998, the Long’s were asked to join the ministry
team at First UPC as youth pastor and administrative
assistant respectively. Having spent his youth
as a member of First UPC, the Long’s were eager to return to
Saint John to give back to the church that provided the
solid foundation for Peter’s life and ministry. In 2002,
Peter was asked to accept the position of assistant to the
pastor and has continued in that capacity to date.
The Long’s enjoy being outdoors and are
known to “disappear” into the natural beauty of the Atlantic
provinces where they enjoy impromptu games of catch,
picnics, fishing, boating and golf. And where you find
Peter and Julie, you will usually find their son, Tyler, and
daughter, Madison, whose smiles and squeals of laughter add a ray of sunshine to
any day!
Julie Long. The
daughter of former missionaries, Rev. & Mrs. Garry
Tracy, Julie spent her childhood in Pakistan and young adult
life in St. Louis, Missouri where her parents now pastor at
New Life Center. She and her
husband, Peter, continue to build on their strong spiritual
foundation as fifth generation Pentecostals fulfilling
ministry roles in the Leeward Islands, Missouri and
presently in Canada. Julie is the Administrative Assistant
at the First United Pentecostal Church in Saint John, New
Brunswick and is an occasional speaker and novice writer. Since 2002, Julie has
been a member of the UPCI Ladies Ministries Women of the
Word Commission which produced the More To Life Bible study
series and a number of other evangelism tools for women. She
currently serves as the Atlantic District Ladies Ministries
Secretary. The Longs are the proud parents of Tyler and
Madison. Along with mothering
and working, Julie enjoys reading, web design and outdoor
activities.
Elder David and
Yvonne Jenkins are charter members of First UPC.
Their faithful service to the church over the years stands
as a testimony of their unwavering commitment to the work of
God in Saint John. Rev. Jenkins is a retired insurance agent
and has used his business skills to assist the church in
administration, finance and pastoral duties as an assistant
pastor. When Elder Jenkins is not fishing or dreaming of
fishing, you will usually find him planning an event or trip
for the 50 Plus Ministry members of our congregation.
The Jenkins' also spend many hours visiting and encouraging
our seniors who are unable to come to the services.
Rev. Jenkins currently serves on the Board of Elders and
leads our 50 Plus Ministry.
Elder James G.
Fudge and his wife Joyce have devoted their lives
to the needs of our congregation and community. They
are involved in daily hospital visitation and are
responsible for our outreach services in area rehabilitation
centers, nursing homes and correctional facilities.
Rev. Fudge is a retired Saint John Police Inspector and
currently serves as the Saint John Police Force Chaplain.
He was also selected to fill the chaplaincy position at the
Saint John Regional Correctional Facility. The
untiring work of this couple is truly remarkable as
countless lives have been affected and saved as a result of
their ministry. Rev. Fudge is a member of our church
Board of Elders and he oversees the Pastoral Care Ministry
of the church.
Michael Long,
a confirmed francophile and Instructor of French at the
University of New Brunswick - Saint John campus, along with
his wife Liz; an Italian from Belgium, are at the service of
those francophones and other francophiles of Saint John who
would like to exercise their faith, discover or rediscover
it, in the dynamic setting that Mark Drive is known to be.
They have been members of this church since 1997.
Mike has been involved over the past several years in
facilitating the "Bilingualism in Business" workshops, put
on by Avantage Saint John Advantage, an organization that
works closely with Enterprise Saint John in terms of
promoting the economic and cultural benefits that
bilingualism both offers and secures. He and his wife have
recently had the privilege of serving Saint John's bilingual
community, by translating the website "LeBottin.org" - an
online directory of local businesses, individuals and
organizations that offer bilingual service.
After several years of holding small
group meetings and Bible studies in their home, the Long's
successfully launched the French daughter church of First
UPC in June 2005. They continue to make contacts with
their friends in the French community and hold French
language services every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the church
multipurpose room.
Mike and Liz have three children, Sophie,
Dominic and Timo.
Neil Josselyn came from a
United Church background and attended his first Pentecostal
service at the age of seventeen. During a youth convention
in 1998, Neil received the revelation of the One True God
and the New Birth Message (Isaiah 43, John 3, Acts 2 )
that forever changed his life. In 2000 he began teaching our
Youth Sunday School class and assisting in youth services at
First UPC.
Neil
graduated from UNBSJ with a Business Degree in 2000 and that
same year married his high school sweetheart Tanya (Leckey).
In 2002 Neil joined our youth department staff and loves
every minute of the time he spends with our awesome young
people. The Josselyn's have one daughter, Kaylyn, who was
born in 2005.
